The Marriott West Hollywood Edition hotel and residences on Sunset Boulevard is slated to open later this month, which will make it the 21st hotel in West Hollywood.

The 13-story hotel will contain 190 guest rooms. It also will include a gym, a restaurant, a rooftop pool and bar, and event space. Behind it, facing Harratt Street there will be 20 condominiums on floors 9 through 13 with 20 condominiums with their own entrance and pool. Those condos, ranging from one to four bedrooms, with prices ranging from $5 million to $8.5 million.   On penthouse is said to be on the market for $25 million. The Edition Residences website shows only two of those units are currently available.  Urbanize LA reports that the hotel rooms will rent from $400 to $500 a night.

Construction on the hotel began four years ago. It will be the Edition brand’s West Coast flagship. The hotel was designed by British architect John Pawson with influence from Ian Schrager.

With the opening of the Edition, West Hollywood will be home to 21 hotels. The Pendry, a project of AECOM Capital and Combined Properties Inc., is under construction on Sunset Boulevard at Olive Drive, the location of the former House of Blues. Developers are working on plans for two other hotels.

This project unfortunately does not appear to be a high point of his work. The aesthetics of the project were sold to the community primarily with views of the south elevation with its extensive greenery.

On second look, it appears the influence from Ian Schrager was what seems to have diminished Pawson’s work. It closely resembles the building on Fairfax at Norton that houses many Russian residents. The view of a soulless box on Sunset with sprouting greenery added to the roof and trees parked at street level do not make it particularly appealing. The view from the SW on Doheny is even more unattractive. The facilitator of this project certainly pulled one over on the city. and pulled $$$$ swiftly into the hands of the developer. Will have to check back in the archives… Read more »

The down-side to this development is that all of the on-street parking on the north side of Harratt has been taken away on the block where those condos are sited. And, 5 million plus for a condo and I’m only paying less that 1500 per month for my two-bedroom apt that sits just 100 feet away. That’s just so weird.

Says you. The owner of the building I live in has already been approached to sell but they declined. The offer was insufficient. I realize I may be evicted but that’s the risk I have taken for over 22 years as a resident. That’s OK since I’m entitled to a hefty relocation allowance.
